30th Annual Super Fiddle Show
A year away from the show’s thirtieth anniversary, this year’s Super Fiddle Show is ready to thrilled audiences at the Riverview Arts Centre (Riverview High School Theatre), Riverview, NB, with an evening of fiddle music from some of the finest from both locally and from across Canada.
This year’s Super Fiddle Show takes place on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at the Riverview Arts Centre – Royal Theatre (Riverview High School), 400 Whitepine Road, Riverview NB, with proceeds going to RHS Safe Grad. Showtime is 7:30pm.
Join us for an evening of music full enough to fill two kitchen parties. From 8 years old and on into their 90’s, this year’s full program brings you some brilliant talent with both instrumentals and vocals. Guests include Terri Croft (ON) and Shelby Murray (NB), Martha Pitre (NB), Reg Gallant (NB), Sara & James Nelson (NB), and of course Ivan and Vivian Hicks and the Sussex Avenue Fiddlers, without whom the show would not be complete.
Terri Croft (ON) is a phenomenal talent when it comes to the violin both on the Classical side and the fiddle side of the instrument. She hails originally from Salisbury, NB but now is based in Toronto where she has a private violin and fiddle studio.
Terri has performed across North America, holds a Bachelor of Music from Dalhousie University, and a Master of Music from the Cleveland Institute of Music, and an Artist Diploma from the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music. She has won many competitions in including the 2014 Northern Ontario Fiddle Championship and the 2015 duo and ensemble categories at the Glenn Gould School Chamber Music Competition. Terri also teams up with fellow musician, Shelby Murray, as a concert duo when she is visiting on the East Coast.
Shelby Murray (NB) Is a brilliantly talented multi-instrumentalist from Salisbury, NB. Born pre-mature, Shelby lost her sight as a result of the treatment used to save her life. At age 3, Shelby had learned to play piano by ear. She didn’t stop with one instrument but also taught herself to play the accordion and harmonica, among others. She has an accurate ear for music and quickly picks up anything she listens to. She will amaze you with her musical talents.
Martha Pitre (NB) developed an interest in the fiddle as a little girl and also studied Classical violin. She has been a multi-top ten finalist in the Canadian Grand Masters Fiddling Championship. She has won awards at the Maritime Fiddle Festival and along with being a contest winning fiddler, this young lady is also an accomplished stepd-ancer. The sky is the limit for her.
Reg Gallant (NB) Born in Rexton, NB, Reg is a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist who plays guitar, mandolin, 5-string banjo, fiddle, bass, piano, hammered dulcimer, harmonica, dobro and steel guitar.
Reg is also a songwriter who has penned over 60 songs and released four albums. One of these, At The Drop of a Hat, received worldwide radio airplay and charted in Top Tens internationally.
Sara & James Nelson (Lower Coverdale, NB) are a young brother (9) and sister (11) duo. They play together at gigs and also along with the Sussex Avenue Fiddlers. Sara plays the fiddle as does James, who also plays guitar sometimes to accompany his sister. They both love to entertain and have competed in a number of competitions and placed well. James won the 9 and under fiddle title at the 2017 Maritime Fiddle Festival with Sara winning 2nd place in the 10 to 12 year old category .
Ivan & Vivian Hicks and the Sussex Avenue Fiddlers have been part of the Super Fiddle Show since its inception in 1989. They are still going strong today with over 50 members from 9 years old to over 96 and have played throughout the Maritimes, Canada and the US. The group is celebrating their 40th Anniversary this year and continue to travel and entertain.
Ivan is coordinator of the Super Fiddle Show, director of the Sussex Avenue Fiddlers, performs and MC’s the show. Vivian, his wife, accompanies on piano and assists in planning and preparing for the show. Norm Breau of St. Antoine, will accompany on bass.
